about

I am a mixed media artist and creative doer to my core. Working from my home studio in Leverett, MA, I draw much of my inspiration from my surroundings—country life in Western Massachusetts with my wife and two young kids, as well as our travels and wanderlust beyond. While I dabble in nearly every medium, I’ve recently found my most resonate artistic voice in painted paper collage and the duality of both its creation and aesthetic. My work is painterly and sculptural; deconstructive and reconstructive; realistic and abstract; intricate and unfussy. Collaging gets me out of my perfectionism and into my freedom as an artist. It keeps me sharp in observation and playfully spontaneous in expression.

Composed from fragments of recycled paper painted with gouache, pencil, and neocolor crayon, my work is my happy place and often a salve for the immense destruction and heartbreak in today’s world. Ultimately, I experience it as a meditative practice in, and energetic manifestation of, hopefulness and repair - gluing together pieces of a broken world as a reminder of the beauty that surrounds us. Art is immensely joyous and transportive for me, and through my work, I invite others to revel in multiplicity, to sink into the wonder of place, and to make and remake meaning from scrap.

My work is available online, at the Sawmill River Arts Gallery in Montague, Massachusetts, at the Fisher Gift Gallery in Avon, CT, and at various exhibitions throughout the year.
